Vice-President/Part-Time Faculty – Candidates’ Statements
1. Bobbi-Lee Smart
I have served on the executive board for Cerritos College Faculty Federation for the last two years as the Vice President of Part-Time Faculty.
I have been involved in the success of the negotiations team’s ratifying a new contract. This contract includes an assignment article, where our work rules are written down, a step towards parity for part-time faculty, a pool of funds for healthcare reimbursement for part-time faculty, and a raise of 4.71% for all faculty.
In addition, I have been involved with the grievance team which has helped over 80 members over the last two years. I currently represent CCFF on the CFT’s Part-Time committee, a statewide committee that advocates for part-time faculty. I have helped facilitate a series of workshops which include: filing for unemployment insurance, student debt relief, and how to get a full-time job.
My philosophy with my union work is to create networks and solidarity between full-time and part-time faculty. Furthermore, networks and solidarity between Cerritos College and other locals in the area and state which are important to the strength of public employees. I look forward to continuing this work over the next two years.
