MOU: Department Chair Elections and Compensation and Assumption of Duties (Summer) 2017-18

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN THE CERRITOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT AND THE CERRITOS FACULTY FEDERATION (LOCAL 6215, CFT/AFT, AFL-CIO)
REGARDING
Department Chair Elections and Compensation and Assumption of Duties (Summer)

The parties agree to this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding Department Chair Elections and Compensation and Assumption of Duties (Summer). This MOU becomes effective when signed by the representatives listed below through the end of Spring 2018.

Department Chair Elections

Sitting department Chairs will notify their Dean the outcome of the spring elections within seven business days of the selection of the newly elected department Chair.

Department Chairs newly elected in the spring semester may assume duties July 1st or on the first day of the fall semester following their election if the sitting Chair does not work the entire summer.

Compensation and Assumption of Duties (Summer)

By May 11, Department Chairs will inform the Division Dean if they will work in the summer. If the job will be shared between co-chairs or a sitting and a new Chair over the summer, the stipend will be evenly split.

If the sitting Department Chair is not sharing the assignment and elects to work during the summer, the Chair must be available and work the entire summer term to receive full stipend. If the Chair choses to work only one summer session, then the Chair receives half the stipend.

If the Chair were to become unavailable to fulfill his/her Chair responsibilities during the summer, the Dean will take over the Chair duties and the summer stipend will be prorated  accordingly.

Any department Chair, newly elected or sitting, may elect not to work during the summer. In such cases, the division Dean will take over summer Chair duties.

Signed on May 4, 2017.
