KNOW YOUR WEINGARTEN RIGHTS
If you are asked to attend a meeting or hearing with your chair or dean, Human Resources, or other administrative official, and you think it may result in disciplinary measures, you have the right to request a union representative to accompany you to that meeting by submitting this “contact us” form. On the form, please write your first and last name, email address, the reason for your request and the best phone number to reach you.
In the meantime, you have the right to:
- Know what the meeting is about
- Request a union representative be present with you
- Reschedule the meeting until a union rep can accompany you
- Consult with your union rep before the meeting begins
If your union rep is unable to accompany you to a meeting, and your request to reschedule is denied, you must attend the meeting. However, you are not required to answer any questions. Instead, you can listen, take notes, and you may read the following statement:
“If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, or affect my personal working conditions, I respectfully request that my union representative, officer, or steward be present at this meeting. Without union representation, I choose not to answer any questions. This is my right under the Supreme Court Decision.”
